An optometrist is a doctor of optometry (O.D.) who performs eye exams, diagnoses and treats vision problems, eye diseases and related conditions, and prescribes eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications to treat eye disorders. They cannot perform surgery, but they can provide patients with pre- and post-surgical care.
